09 July, 2004: THUS plc, a UK national alternate operator, has selected Nortel Networks [NYSE/TSX: to provide the latest softswitch technology to enable it to deliver richer IP (Internet Protocol) based services to enterprise customers of all sizes in the United Kingdom. Nortel Networks will supply products from its 'Succession' VoIP communications portfolio that will be fully integrated with THUS's existing MPLS-based data services. With the enhanced capability, THUS expects to offer a rich suite of next generation voice applications, enabling customers to customize their communications to fit individual needs and to consolidate services like teleworker and work phones onto a single number or address. THUS plans to deploy Nortel Networks Multimedia Communication Server 5200, which uses open standards-based software and commercially available hardware to help service providers deliver a rich suite of multimedia and collaboration services that can be seamlessly integrated with existing telephone services. This deployment will also include Nortel Networks Succession* Communication Server 2000-Compact superclass softswitches and Nortel Networks Passport Packet Voice Gateway for toll quality voice.
