Car drivers in Paderborn, Germany can now buy their parking tickets by mobile phone using the new solution installed and operated by Siemens Business Services. People using the new system will find parking less stressful: no looking for parking meters, no rummaging for the correct change, the convenience of extending the parking time with a simple phone call whenever they want and wherever they are. In addition, monitoring is simpler and more money flows into the municipal coffers. Fifty percent of the 140,000 inhabitants of Paderborn own a car. Anyone wishing to use the new system registers via the internet or in written form with the system operator and is then sent a registration card to be affixed to the inside of the windscreen, where it is in clear view to meter maids. Drivers looking for a parking space call up the system operator on a freecall number and are told where a space is available. If a maximum parking time is stipulated, the parker receives a reminder call on their mobile before the limit is reached. Before leaving the parking space, the driver notifies the operator again, using the same phone number. Alternatively, checking in and checking out can both be handled via SMS. The parking fee is invoiced in Paderborn on a three-minute basis and directly debited from the driver's account at the end of the month.
