The AVIC-X1R from Pioneer is an in-car navigation system using Tele Atlas digital map data combined with an intelligent route guidance system and state-of-the-art searching. It is also a versatile in-car entertainment system. A unique ‘Memory Navigation’ function allows the user to plan his route from a single navigation DVD that carries detailed Tele Atlas maps for 22 European countries. The DVD can be replaced with entertainment resources such as a film DVD for the rear seat passengers and radio broadcasts for those sitting in the front of the vehicle. The memory holds sufficient Tele Atlas data to plan re-routes around traffic congestion or when turnings are missed. The original AVIC-X1 was launched in 2004 and the new version has enhanced capabilities including enlarged memory mode and extended entertainment options. The DVD carries 1,606,000 points of interest (POI) organized into 62 categories.
