Mobile Innovation, which carries out User Interface (UI) design, development and integration for mobile devices, has chosen Macromedia Flash as a preferred development tool for creating UI applications for mobile devices. By using Flash in place of C++ for development, Mobile Innovation can now offer faster development times with less cost, enhanced UI designs that can be changed quickly, and designs that can be easily deployed across a wider user base. By using Flash, designers can instantly see the results of their designs and can quickly and easily make changes in response to feedback. This is particularly useful during the usability testing phase of any UI development project, because the manufacturer can take the findings from its usability lab and quickly adapt its prototypes accordingly for further testing. And once the prototypes have been sent to the customer, Mobile Innovation are able to respond quickly to their feedback and changes to requirements. Development timescales present another compelling factor. Mobile Innovation recently implemented a dynamic User Experience (UE) for one of its Tier 1 Operator customers, and concluded that developing it in Flash took one third of the development time it would have taken to develop it in C++. As a result, the time to market for new products has been shortened significantly. In fact, the case for Flash is so compelling that Mobile Innovation has chosen to develop its own handset-based customer demonstrations using Macromedia Flash, in order to best highlight the cutting-edge creativity of their UI design team to customers. They can create showcase designs that make the most of Flash by including smooth animations between screens, pop-up messages, and other features that create an engaging user experience for Mobile Innovation's potential customers. Once these showcase designs have been created, they can then be amended quickly and easily to include customer-specific details such as branding and services. Another advantage of using Flash is that a single UI implemented using Flash Lite can be easily customised for different screen sizes and form factors, allowing deployment across multiple devices and platforms with minimal redevelopment effort. This also ensures a consistent user experience regardless of the device being used. And because Mobile Innovation's customers include major handset manufacturers and network operators around the world, the company needed a tool that would work on the widest possible variety of devices.
