22 July, 2004: Telenor Pakistan has commissioned Siemens to build its GSM network in the southern part of the country. The mobile communication group at Siemens AG (Siemens mobile) will provide delivery and installation of all the infrastructure components for setting up the network.

The order for Siemens mobile comprises turnkey delivery and installation of switching technology, mobile transmission and receiving stations (base stations), Intelligent Networks (IN) and GPRS hardware and software components for the Telenor network in southern Pakistan.

"The order from Telenor as a new customer is a further success for us as a mobile equipment provider in an interesting Pakistan market that offers much potential. Only around 3% of the 141 million-strong population use mobile telephony", said Christoph Caselitz, President of Networks at Siemens mobile.
