debitel and Opera Software have announced a long-term partnership to grow the market for mobile Web browsing in Europe. As Europe's largest network-independent telecommunications service provider, third largest mobile phone service provider and market leader among value-added service providers in Germany, debitel will utilise Opera's full mobile product portfolio consisting of Opera Mobile, Opera Mini and Opera Platform, to deliver mobile Web access and Web applications to its customers. This year, the two companies plan to launch customized Opera mobile browsers across debitel's device portfolio, providing subscribers with full access to their favorite sites, e-mail and other Web-based services. Customized versions of Opera will be pre-installed on debitel handsets or can be downloaded directly by the end-user. In addition to Opera's browsers, debitel will shortly offer state-of-the-art Web applications, or widgets, by launching Opera Platform. With Opera Platform, debitel's partners can quickly and affordably create advanced, AJAX-based Web applications that give users instant access to online resources such as news headlines, weather forecasts, e-mails, sports results, auction bidding status, or even bus schedules.
