Alcatel and Columbus Communications Inc, have inaugurated a new submarine optical cable network, FibraLink, in Kingston, Jamaica, The FibraLink submarine cable system provides festoon and terrestrial connectivity from Kingston to Ocho Rios and Montego Bay in Jamaica. It also connects to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic where the ARCOS network provides seamless connectivity to the United States. The project falls under the Jamaican comprehensive telecommunications deregulation initiative and builds on the license that FibraLink Jamaica Limited was granted by the Government of Jamaica in December 2004. Designed with a capacity of 320Gbits/s per fibre pair, FibraLink allows Jamaican telecommunications providers to cope with end-users' needs for enhanced delivery of business and broadband traffic in a more cost-effective manner.
