KPN Mobile-owned European mobile communications provider Sympac has signed a contract with Starhome to deploy the latter’s turn-key solution ‘Virtual Office Environment’ - intended to bridge the gap between fixed PBX and mobile handsets. This innovative concept expands the functionality of a fixed PBX to encompass mobile users, converging telephony services in a single environment. The Virtual Office Environment enables mobile operators to provide enterprise accounts with a PBX service for mobile handsets that complements their fixed PBX system. One of the main benefits is that corporate users will be able to use a single regular VPN number, typically 4 digits long, to reach the required party regardless of whether the recipient of the call is by a desk phone, out of the office or out of the country. This is in addition to the main benefits Sympac provides to its customers relating to cost control. Multinational customers will be able to reduce their expenditure on mobile communications by lowering the costs of mobile to fixed and fixed to mobile communication. Starhome’s solution can combine several services on the same platform, providing a single PBX interface for corporate use. In addition, the Virtual Office Environment is based on a combination of SCP and service nodes integrated with the traditional PBX, a novel approach in the corporate telecommunications market that can be easily modified to suit the flexible needs of the corporate customer. The Virtual Office Environment supports numerous Starhome features, including global Virtual Private Numbering (VPN), one number, call barring, split billing, call-in control and conference calling, among others. It integrates the disparate communication methods utilised by global corporations and organisations in their daily business.
