Shanghai Simcom, a subsidiary company of SIM technology Group, a leader in mobile handset solution design and wireless communications module development in China, and Kineto Wireless are collaborating on the development of UMA-enabled mobile handsets. Simcom will integrate Kineto Wireless' UMA client software into dual-mode (GSM/EDGE and Wi-Fi) handsets. In addition, Kineto Wireless will provide Simcom with development, testing, and integration tools as part of Kineto's Device Developer Program. The resulting mobile devices will conform to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) global UMA standard and provide for seamless mobility between Wi-Fi and GSM networks. Through this collaboration, the companies will deliver high performance, low cost UMA-enabled devices to mobile and integrated fixed/mobile operators worldwide. Simcom's platform supports powerful data processing technology and advanced radio access technologies such as EDGE, TDS-CDMA, and WCDMA which, combined with Wi-Fi and UMA, deliver a very attractive product portfolio for service providers globally.
