Horsebridge Network Systems has released the results of a user study showing its backhaul networking solution is effective for reducing service disruptions experienced by users of mobile networks by upwards of twenty per cent. Typical service disruptions that users indicate are ‘frustrating’ include call drop-offs, which one in three mobile customers in the UK experience at least once per day. And this problem is on the increase as more data traffic begins flooding networks, according to industry experts. Horsebridge undertook the study to test the efficacy of its backhaul solution for Packet-based networks. Backhaul services are one of the most expensive areas of the network that operators must support. When building a data-based network, backhaul typically accounts for 25% of the entire network cost, or for operators who lease their backhaul, around 40 - 60 % of total operational costs. Trials conducted with major mobile operators across Europe demonstrate that using Horsebridge's solution for backhaul, networks' quality of service (QoS) issues were kept to a minimum. Additionally, Horsebridge's packet-switched backhaul solution was shown to be cost effective at rates of 60% CAPEX (capital expenditure) savings and 70% OPEX (operational expenditure) savings. Horsebridge offers these cost savings by utilising a range of backhauling options, using both radio or circuit-emulation services, to agree the most cost-effective unique solution for every customer. It enables packet-based networks to perform with the same characteristics as a circuit-based network.
