Malaysian operator joins convergence organisation taking potential customer base to over 810mn…
Without undue fanfare the Fixed-Mobile Convergence Alliance (FMCA)
has added Malaysian operator Maxis to its membership roster. At the end
of Q2 2006 the Maxis group's customer base was 11.7mn comprising 8.5mn
for Maxis Malaysia and 3.2mn for the 74%-owned Aircel operation in
India. Maxis also owns 51% of PT Natrindo Telepon Seluler in Indonesia.
The addition of Maxis takes the FMCA membership to 26, and these
members now have a total customer base of over 810mn – or one in three
of the planet’s telecommunications users.
In other FMCA news, the organisation has incorporated itself in New
York, a move that allows it to have employees as opposed to staff
‘donated’ by its membership, has set up a vendor affiliation programme,
and is starting to turn its attention to the challenges associated with
FMC roaming onto other operators’ networks.
