A tale of les singes, les fromages, la reddition and a bucketload of schadenfreude.
The first law of bad news in telecom
operating is: there but for the grace of ‘God’ go I. Worth bearing in
mind as France Telecom comes to terms with an outage affecting up to
60,000 of its ‘Orange’ broadband Internet subscribers. Fair enough:
it’s observers rather than competitors who are taking delight in the
latest misfortune. A glance at the Internet reveals a host of spotty commentators, some of them apparently septuagenarian, heaping scorn on parent France Telecom for the service failure, with the outage blamed for a fall of more than 1% in FT’s share price earlier today. Get over it. (Sh)it happens. In the meantime, if you have any friends who are Orange internet subscribers in the UK, you could always text them or even snail-mail them this story: it might make them feel better. Whatever you do, don’t laugh: it’s probably your turn next. Jim Chalmers |
