Sewage network brings new IT connectivity Print E-mail
Monday, 23 October 2006

A revolutionary new development allows organisations to set up their own IT and telecom networks with unlimited bandwidth via fibre optic cables laid through the sewage system. The Focus System (Fibre Optical Underground Sewer System) from H20 Networks is a fast and cost-effective way to lay cable and link up any location without the high costs and disruption caused by traditional cabling methods. Ideal for a bespoke solution for organisations needing a separate secure network or who need cable available for disaster recovery, the cost advantages of H20’s network mean that not only is it cheaper to install but it offers a fixed term cost rather than organisations control, bandwidth tariffs. When extra capacity is needed there are no uplift charges. A network can be operational in weeks rather than months as negotiations for permission to dig roads and pavements are not needed which can add considerable costs to a network provision. It can also be laid up to 80% faster than traditional methods and there is the advantage that as the cables lie at depths of up to 10m below the ground, compared with 450mm for conventional cables, it is also far more secure – particularly in disaster recovery situations.
