Pure-play telecoms software giant unveils new identity…

Following its recent acquisition by private equity investors, the company formerly known as Flextronics Software Systems has re-branded itself as pure-play telecoms software specialist Aricent.

Aricent was created following the acquisition of the software division of Flextronics, the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer, by venture capital firms KKR and Sequoia Capital in a deal which valued the company at US$900mn. Flextronics has retained a 15% stake in Aricent.

Describing itself as the largest pureplay telecommunications software company in the world, Aricent has a global customer base of more than 350, including nine of the top ten telecom equipment vendors, eight of the top ten mobile phone manufacturers and major operators such as Vodafone and Sprint Nextel. The company’s expertise covers the entire spectrum of the telecommunications sector including wireless, cable, satellite, broadband, billing and OSS, mobile handset design, packet switching and DSP development. Aricent has more than 125 licensable products available to its clients. The new company will have over 6,700 employees in 25 offices throughout 13 countries and will be led by Ashish Bhardwaj with Manoranjan Mohapatra as president and chief operating officer.
