BT awards sub continent’s largest IT outsourcing deal.
UK incumbent BT has signed India’s largest IT outsourcing deal to date. Worth in excess of US$1bn, the five year contract will see the Tech Mahindra organisation support BT’s planned growth of managed services to business customers around the globe, and continue to provide ongoing services related to BT’s internal systems, processes and re-usable platforms. Tech Mahindra, formerly known as Mahindra-British Telecom Ltd, has around 15,000 professional employees servicing clients across various telecom segments, from multiple offshore development centres in seven cities in India and the UK and from13 sales offices across Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific. The company started life in the mid-1980s as a joint venture between BT and auto maker Mahindra and Mahindra. BT currently owns around 34% of the enterprise, and prior to the new deal reportedly accounted for two thirds of Tech Mahindra’s revenues.
