18 October, 2004: The R-100 'PTO
Tracker' Index of major carriers showed a tiny rise in the first two
weeks of this month while the 'Wireless Tracker' slipped slightly at the
October mid-point.
Brief updates on the PTO and Wireless
sub-Indexes of the Redux Global ICT 100 Index for market closing as of
15 October, 2004 show a 0.07% rise in the ‘PTO Tracker’ and a 0.5% fall
in the ‘Wireless Tracker’ since the last full results from 01 October,
2004.
On the fixed side, European PTO stocks were down 2.6% across the basket
of 15 operating companies; North American telcos were up 4.5%;
Asia-Pacific telcos were down 0.7%. Asian PTOs actually shrugged off
recent losses with NTT and Telstra climbing back; gains were the norm
in the US with the exception of Qwest; in Europe, KPN, Telefónica,
Portugal Telecom and TPSA were the main gainers.
On the mobile side, Asia’s China Mobile, DoCoMo and Hutchison Whampoa
were lower, while other stocks were flat or rising, led by Telefónica
Moviles and TIM.
