iPass has signed an agreement with Inmarsat, the leading provider of global mobile satellite communications, to become a new distribution partner for its Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service. This partnership adds satellite broadband connectivity to the iPass portfolio, helping customers deliver high-performance connections to their mobile users in places where other broadband technologies do not reach; anywhere from rural areas where 3G or Wi-Fi hotspots have not been deployed to some of the remotest locations in the world. Inmarsat BGAN is a next-generation satellite service that provides broadband coverage across 85 percent of the world's land mass and 98% of the world's population - including the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa, the Indian sub-continent, most of Asia Pacific and Western Australia. The BGAN platform delivers high-bandwidth IP data services, supporting access to the Internet and corporate VPN at speeds up to 492kbits/s. The service is accessed via a portable magazine-sized terminal device that can be set-up in minutes, even by non-technical users.
