Tuesday, 19 October 2004

19 October, 2004: Nokia has won a GSM expansion deal with Comcel, América Móvil's affiliate in Colombia, continuing as Comcel's sole supplier of GSM/EDGE core and radio network equipment. The deliveries of the expansion are currently underway and will reach a value of US$90mn by the end of 2004. Under the expansion agreement, Nokia will provide GSM/EDGE and GPRS network equipment, allowing Comcel to increase network capacity and expand coverage to smaller cities where GSM service has not yet been available, in order to keep pace with the demand for mobile services in Colombia. As part of the network expansion, Nokia will provide additional Nokia NetAct (TM) operations support system (OSS) platforms. Comcel is the largest mobile operator in Colombia, leading one of the most dynamic markets in Latin America, a region that will play an important role in the expected growth of the mobile industry to two billion subscribers in 2007.
