IP multimedia services deal inked Print E-mail
Saturday, 23 October 2004

22 October, 2004: Nokia and Hotsip AB have agreed to cooperate in the area of IP multimedia services. Nokia will include Hotsip's SIP PC Client, the Hotsip Active Contacts PC, as part of the Nokia IP Multimedia Subsystem offering for network operators. Nokia will also use the Hotsip's Multimedia Communications Engine (M2CE) to provide Voice Instant Messaging with the Nokia offering. The SIP PC Client and the Nokia offering enable operators to offer new multimedia services between PCs and mobile phones. This brings to life service convergence between different devices and access technologies, which is one of the benefits of IMS. Examples of such services are presence, instant messaging, as well as rich calls between a mobile phone and the SIP PC Client. The Hotsip M2CE can be deployed as an application server for the Nokia offering for the implementation of Voice Instant Messaging service. Voice Instant Messaging enables users to send voice clips to each other.
