02 November, 2004: One of India’s leading mobile operators, Aircel Cellular, has successfully deployed the Interconnect Billing System from UshaComm. The interconnect solution will support the billing, rating; payment tracking and reconciliation of charges for interconnect calls and short messages at Aircel.

Aircel has a subscriber base of over 1,500,000 subscribers and serves 330 towns across the Southern Indian State of Tamilnadu. Aircel interconnects with 25 other operators for local, national long distance and international services.

UshaComm's Interconnect Billing System (UIBS) will provide Aircel with a dynamic solution that will accelerate the generation of interconnect revenue and help verify costs. From constructing agreements and reference data, processing network usage, to invoicing and verifying invoices from partners, UIBS is highly flexible as it utilizes its rules-based configuration capability, so changes can be easily and quickly made to the rating and charging mechanisms.

Aircel processes 15mn incoming and outgoing calls on a daily basis and will immediately benefit from being able to accurately manage interconnect relationships and activities. The Interconnect Billing System interfaces with 7 switches to ensure optimum routing based on route costs and capacities, which keeps the operational costs to a minimum. UshaComm's Interconnect Billing System is compliant with the Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC) regulation, which is mandated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
