Telefónica O2 Slovensko has announced the roll-out its own mobile network in Slovakia with its first 400 base stations going live in September 2007 – a figure that will double by autumn next year. The system will be rolled out in
Slovakia’s individual regions on a step-by-step basis and is currently focused on areas with the highest population density, such as Banská Bystrica, Prešov, Košice,
Bratislava and some parts of Považie. The only change that customers will notice is an O2-SK indication on the display of the mobile telephone, or a number code “231-06”. Previously O2 used the T-Mobile network.
Also, O2 Slovakia’s post-paid customers will be able to pick and choose their own personalised mobile phone number free of charge from next month. The offer will allow customers to choose ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ numbers – memorable numbers or those that resemble important anniversaries or dates – that normally retail for between SKK 15 000 and SKK 20 000 free of charge.
