Harris Stratex wins WiMAX backhaul contract Print E-mail

Harris Stratex Networks has secured a deal to provide Eclipse wireless transport platform to TDF, a French converged service provider. The Eclipse radios will provide high speed Gigabit Ethernet connections for TDF’s WiMAX network. TDF has secured licenses to provide WiMAX at 3.5GHz across 11 territories in France. Eclipse is ideally suited to support WiMAX backhaul traffic by enabling operators to support high-reliability Carrier Ethernet transport, and is a radio platform to support intelligent Layer 2 Quality of Service controls and features. Another key consideration for TDF was the ability of Eclipse to provide scaleable bandwidth from 10 to over 600 Mbit/s in a single radio channel, with a broad choice of channel bandwidth options thanks to highly efficient modulation technology. In France, as in most EU countries, annual license fees are charged on every radio link and are based upon the bandwidth used. Eclipse enables TDF to fit more capacity in less bandwidth than many other solutions, which, when viewed over their entire network, results in significant overall savings. Radio frequencies are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain in France, so the ability to deploy high-capacity links in the minimum of bandwidth often enables TDF to deploy links in regions where frequencies may not otherwise be available.
