Zenitel Norway AS has won the contract for delivering the infrastructure, including the complete radio communication system, for the world's deepest road tunnel, Eikesundsambandet, in
Norway. The tunnel, with the lowest point down to 287 meters under water, will require tight security and reliable communications in and around the tunnel entrances. The radio installation will provide the tunnel and road users with full FM radio coverage, and secure, effective communication for emergency instances throughout, whenever and where ever a critical situation occurs. Additionally, the construction includes an alarm and surveillance system, which alerts the road traffic centre directly about any irregularities. Zenitel's local partner Nordvest Elektronikk in Kristiansund will be responsible for commissioning the system, and carrying out a frequent service on the installation. The tunnel is due to open in January 2008.
Zenitel has also announced a new radio infrastructure contract between Zenitel Denmark AS and BaneDanmark (Danish Rail Net). Commencing on 1 January 2008, Zenitel
Denmark will provide radio infrastructure, operations and maintenance services for Danish Rail Net’s traffic information systems located on railway stations nationwide. The contract is for a four year period and covers BaneDanmark’s traffic information systems, monitors, loudspeakers, and clocks (except S-train and local trains), and the connected IT-systems and back-up thereof.
