Nearly half of EU enterprises outsource some or all of their ICT functions, says report.

New research from the EU’s statistical office Eurostat reveals that 44% of businesses in the 27 Member States make use of full or partial outsourcing to meet their ICT needs. Denmark leads the way with 76% of companies going down the outsourcing route, closely followed by Finland (with 70%). Hungary (20%) and Lithuania (21%) are at the bottom of the outsourcing league.

The figures come from a report, ‘Internet usage by enterprises 2007’ and can be downloaded as a PDF from the Eurostat website (click here). Most of the statistics refer to year-end 2006.

The survey also covers Internet access. It shows that 94% of enterprises have Internet access with 77% using broadband. Broadband penetration among companies is highest in Finland (91%) and lowest in Romania (31%).

In terms of web presence, 65% of EU businesses have a website, ranging from 85% in Sweden to 24% in Romania.
