Well, the ‘Anil Dhirubai Ambani Group’ would be a bit of a mouthful, wouldn’t it? Welcome to India.
Coming soon to a market near you: Reliance Globalcom. The Indian giant is rebranding its FLAG and Yipes arms into a unit designed to “deliver a broad portfolio of data and voice services spanning enterprise, wholesale, managed services, and consumer segments” under a single brand umbrella. Reliance Globalcom will see existing Global Voice, Managed Network, Carrier Ethernet, and Fibre Capacity Businesses placed in a single group. It claims an addressable market of US$285bn with starting revenues of US$1.32bn. Reliance Globalcom claims to be among the five largest “global datacommunications enterprises.” Screwy, but quite possibly true. “In creating Reliance Globalcom, we are aligning our global communications strategies into a single vision to create one of the top five global communications companies in the world”, said Mr Anil D. Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Communications. “Reliance Globalcom, structured to serve the existing and emerging fast growing demands of our global customers, would add significant value for the shareholders of India’s largest and most profitable Telecom enterprise”. Do not ignore them. A brand makeover may be cosmetic, but they are not ignoring you. Jim Chalmers |
