Mobile data revenue grows through 2012 Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 April 2008

Pyramid Research estimates that mobile data will account for 29% of global mobile service revenue in 2012, up from 19% in 2007. Clearly, the mobile data opportunity is soaring: mobile data revenue in 2007 was more than double what it was in 2004, and Pyramid expect it to double again to US$300 billion in 2012. The new report published by Pyramid Research, Mobile Data Best Practices: Positioning and Revenue Opportunities in Emerging and Developed Markets, finds the following:

*Mobile data revenue is larger in developed markets but will grow faster in emerging ones.

*Compared with emerging markets, data ARPS (average revenue per subscriber) is five times higher in developed nations, and the difference gets even greater in those markets where operators provide flat-rate data bundles and promote 3G.

*SMS will continue to generate the highest share of global mobile data revenue through 2012 and will make a larger impact in emerging markets.
