North African UMTS network launched |

31 December, 2004: Algeria Telecom Mobile, the leading mobile operator in Algeria, has launched a UMTS pilot network using technology supplied by Huawei. The UMTS pilot network covers many areas in the country’s capital city Algiers, including the Office of the President, the headquarters of Algeria Telecom Mobile, and the International Exhibition Center. The UMTS pilot network provides basic mobile services such as voice, video phone, and SMS, and also multimedia services such as MMS, streaming, and pocket TV.
