Tap-dancing shoes at the ready, let’s report an injustice while tippy-toeing around the perpetrator. Whatever you do, don’t mention...
[Nota bene: because I cannot be bothered to sift through the hate mail that would follow, the most sensitive names (with the exception of ‘France’ and 'Germany') in this piece have been changed to ‘*&^$%*’ or ‘@§%±#--’ while other names have been replaced by bulky consonants.] An XY-based mobile phone consortium, known as ‘WXXXX’, wants to build a mobile network in the state of *&^$%*. The authorities in the near neighbours of *&^$%*, the state of @§%±#--, do not like the idea. Too few frequencies, they say. According to @§%±#--, they have granted enough spectrum to *&^$%* for the WXXXX network to be built. This network would be an important economic driver in the embattled [sic] and impoverished state of *&^$%*, some of whose woes are laid squarely at the door of @§%±#-- by the international community. WXXXX disagrees and claims a US$700mn investment in the infrastructure of *&^$%* is at risk unless @§%±#-- releases the frequencies involved. @§%±#-- has some awful ‘previous’ where this is concerned. Having grabbed land and natural resources and water from *&^$%* in the past, @§%±#-- now apparently seeks to claim ownership of the ether, too. Not that there’s much to be done, since @§%±#-- does not seem to care for or regard international law. Tubby Bear [not her real name], laughingly appointed as an international envoy to this part of the world, is said to be grumpy about all this. ‘Tub’ (as she is known) inspires little confidence in most of the world, She’s treated with some respect by leaders and the press in @§%±#--, but that may be a mark of her ineffectiveness. France used to try this shit, limiting spectrum availability on the grounds of ‘national security’. Amazing when you consider that historically all France has done to ensure its national security is rely upon its neighbours to rescue it once it has been over-run. Germany played a similar game on the grounds that it bordered so many other countries. They never claimed ownership of separate sovereign states, though (OK, Germany did, under Hitler). In the Cold War, the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe were awash with such apparent restrictions. That spectro-squeeze was used in part as an instrument to persecute and oppress minorities. Is that what @§%±#-- is attempting to do to *&^$%*? Looks like it to me. But I could not possibly say. ¢¢¢§¶•ªº (Jim Chalmers) |
