On-demand middleware offer launched…
US Carrier Ethernet service provider MBO Video LLC, and Mediaroom/IPTV software and integration services company 180SQUARED have unveiled what is billed as the world`s first IPTV Managed Cloud Service. Dubbed Cirrus Managed Cloud Solutions, the service is built with the MBOi (Interactive) digital video service and 180SQUARED`s v.Unison solution set. The latter is claimed to enable a shared installation of an IPTV middleware platform among multiple entities, while maintaining a secure, autonomous environment for each individual entity`s back-end systems and customised offering. "By sharing the infrastructure and costs, IPTV becomes a much more viable and competitive product offering," offers Gene Baldwin of MBO Video LLC. "We recognised the business potential of IPTV, and we`re eager to supply service providers and other entities, such as hotels and hospitality providers, economies of scale for more robust video solutions. 180SQUARED`s v.Unison encapsulated into the Cirrus Solution allows us to do that and share IPTV offerings with other entities simply and efficiently." Cirrus Managed Cloud Solutions, based on Microsoft Mediaroom, give providers access to applications designed to differentiate their IPTV service, including onscreen Caller ID (VoIP and TDM compatibility), remote PVR scheduling, and whole home PVR. In addition to these, the Cirrus solution provides ongoing maintenance support to the installation and subscribing entities. Ultimately, say the duo, the MBOi solution provides service providers with an opportunity to access this shared installation to reduce the CapEx and OpEx necessary for entry into the market. While we don’t like to rain on anyone’s parade, back in February 2008 European IPTV solutions provider Industria announced it would be offering its IPTV platform as a subscription-based service named Zignal Cloud. Built on the Zignal digital entertainment delivery platform, Zignal Cloud was designed to lower the total cost of ownership for service providers, provide predictability of costs, reduce technology risks and decrease time to market. Services enabled were to include VoD, pause live TV and PVR. “Now service providers of any size can sign-up for Zignal Cloud and have a full carrier-grade IPTV Service Delivery Platform up-and-running for zero investment," said Industria ceo Gudjon Mar Gudjonsson at the launch. "This means we are greatly reducing the barriers to entry for new market entrants and easing the transition of existing operators. The Zignal Cloud initiative is based on our experience from the IPTV market, where we have learned that aggressive service providers are looking more and more towards outsourcing parts of their services infrastructure."
