ZTE has announced it will build a UMTS network for COSMOTE
Romania, a subsidiary of the COSMOTE Group. Deploying ZTE’s software-defined radio (SDR) technology the network will enable COSMOTE to carry out a seamless transition from GSM / UMTS to HSPA + and LTE. By the end of March 2010, ZTE will help COSMOTE deploy HSPA+ services offering high-speed data services across all the major cities in
Romania. In the meantime, ZTE’s tailor made network upgrade solution, based on equivalent public land mobile network (EPLMN) technology, will ensure continued services with minimal disruption for current network users. OTE's mobile arm COSMOTE is the Balkan region’s largest multinational mobile operator. COSMOTE is based in
Greece and operates in South-East European countries, including
Greece,
Bulgaria,
Albania and
Romania. Deutsche Telekom (Deutsche Telekom) is the largest shareholder of Greek OTE Group, holding 30% of its stake.
