Android beats out iPhone in ad-clicks and ad-supported-kicks… 

Google’s Android platform has moved ahead of the iPhone in terms of the click-through-rate (CTR) calculated by the ‘Smaato Mobile Advertising Metrics’ analysis for January 2010. And according to a new ‘BoomBox’ report Android is also outpacing the iPhone in terms of growth and downloads from the Myxer mobile entertainment site.

Based on the Smaato 100 Index, the Android worldwide CTR more than doubled last month to 163; this compares to December 2009 where it was only fifth best, at 65. The iPhone/iPod CTR for January was 104. Leading the pack overall was Symbian with 173.

Smaato believes the boost in Android CTR comes with a large uptake in Android ad requests in the Smaato network and newly introduced Android devices, including the Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid and handsets branded by mobile operators. The numbers suggest that there have been a mix of high performing advertising campaigns that were interesting to the Android audience and, the result could be influenced by new owners of handsets that are curious about responding to mobile advertising.

The metrics from mobile advertising company Smaato are based upon 35 mobile ad networks and over 4bn ad requests served in the Smaato Network of more than 2,300 registered mobile publishers in January 2010.

Meantime, says mobile ad-supported entertainment company Myxer, visits to its site from users on the Android OS grew 350% in 2009, compared to iPhone, which grew 170%. In total, Myxer delivered seven times more downloads to Android devices than iPhone devices in Q4 2009.

Myxerclaims to be the largest and fastest growing site for mobile entertainment and personalisation. It currently has around 30mn users, more than 70mn mobile downloads a month, and a catalogue of over 2mn ringtones, wallpapers, videos, applications and games from content providers including EMI Music, Showtime, The Travel Channel and Ford Motor Company.
