ZTE in key optical standards work Print E-mail
Wednesday, 02 March 2005

ZTE Corporation, China’s largest listed telecommunications manufacturer and wireless solutions provider, has drafted a crucial recommendation (G.665) on optical amplifier technology as part of its work with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The successful drafting of G.665 follows a one-year collaboration between several member companies of SG15/Q17, including ZTE, Nortel, Lucent and Corning. It provides a standard for evaluating various Raman amplifiers, and is required for the large scale application of Raman amplification technology to ultra long haul and longer span transmission.

"We are very pleased to have been leading the drafting work on this important international standard", said Xie Daxiong, ZTE svp. "ZTE values its work with the ITU and we plan to remain at the forefront of technical innovation with our continued participation in the formulation of national and international telecommunications industry standards and research".

ZTE already plays an active role at the ITU, having been appointed to edit six new standards relating to optical communications, next generation networks (NGNs) and information security in mobile communications. A member of all three ITU sectors – telecommunication development (ITU-D), telecommunication standardisation (ITU-T) and radiocommunication (ITU-R) – ZTE has hosted several important conferences and participated in more than 30 international standardisation groups, including the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), the CDMA Development Group (CDG), the DSL Forum, and the Network Processing Forum (NPF).
