The ambitiously entitled 'Vision of the future, NGN@Home' workshop will be hosted by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) on 07 April, 2005. ETSI predicts delegates will leave with a variety of visions on how the next generation of networks will reach effortlessly in to the home, while enabling freedom of movement for the user to receive services when not in their own home (for example car, second home, hotel, and so on). The first workshop session, entitled 'User centric - not location centric', will examine the vision of personalised communication services, including health, education, security and leisure, all being managed according to whom the user is, not depending on where they are. The session will study various issues, including synergies with intelligent vehicles, but some discussion is expected on how services can be guaranteed given the increasing 'nomadic behaviour' of users. Among other topics Quality of Service will be addressed in the 'Service creation and delivery to and within the Home domain' session. This session will major on the issues facing home infrastructures and technologies to support next generation services. The third session will address the possibility of still 'Adding value in a multi-access network and multi-service provider environment'. The risks and opportunities of Digital Rights and their influence over what can be achieved will be a hot topic here. The final round up of the day will attempt to identify and seek agreement on the next steps to ensure interoperable solutions and build confidence in the market place. The whole day will be supported by some product displays and by the presence of ETSI experts from the ETSI Technical Committee Access and Terminals (AT), who are holding their meeting in ETSI to coincide with this workshop.
