February saw a slight recovery in our Index of global technology, telecom and new media stocks.
After January’s fall, the Redux Global
ICT 100 Index (R-100) recovered some of its poise last month, gaining
just over 1% to reach 994.73 as of 25 February. The end-January figure was 985.02. Europe and Asia both showed positive growth, while American fortunes were mixed, but flat overall.
Europe was up 1.6%, with big gainers including TeliaSonera and a number
of equipment manufacturers. In North America, growth was 0.25%, led by
strong growth from Apple Computer but offset by falls in Internet
stocks such as Yahoo! and Amazon.
Asia was the star performer, up 3.5%. DoCoMo, Telekom Malaysia and
Hutchison Whampoa were the only declining stocks among the 20 that are
included in the R-100; chief among advancing stocks were NTT, China
Mobile, China Unicom and Singapore Telecom.
